Find adventure in South Africa

Calling all adrenaline junkies – there’s no better place to get your blood pumping than in South Africa. If you want to feel your heart in your mouth take a skydiving trip over Cape Town and gawp at the ‘Mother City’ lying sandwiched between Table Mountain and the bustling Table Bay harbor as you plummet out of the sky. You’ll also spot Robben Island to the West, where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned by the apartheid regime, and see the Atlantic breaking on the Cape West Coast.

Having seen it from the air during your skydive, take a closer look at Table Mountain via cable car. The five-minute journey up the side of one of the most famous landmarks in Africa deposits you at the highest point in Cape Town with a truly jaw-dropping 360° view. And, if it’s your birthday (and you can prove it with ID) you’ll get a free return trip back down. Or you can abseil down if you feel you still haven’t ticked all the extreme sport boxes yet on your trip.

On the Eastern Cape, you can grab a sandboard and start surfing the world’s highest beach dunes in one of South Africa’s most popular new sports: dune boarding. The sport is so popular in fact, that in areas where there aren’t beaches, people have started surfing old gold mining dumps – seriously. Classes are available for beginners and don’t worry about wiping out – the sand is as soft as a pillow.

Hiking and trekking fans can’t pass up a visit the awe-inspiring Drakensberg Mountains, which run like a spine through the eastern side of South Africa and is one of its many scenic glories, offering breath-taking views from its Southern, Central, and Northern Bergs. There are numerous guided tours, including camping trips and day hikes, so you can tailor your adventure to suit you.
